In December 2025, our project partner University of Palermo approved its University Energy Policy, the Three-Year Energy Action Plan, and the University Carbon Footprint, laying the foundations for a structured and long-term approach to sustainability.
Aligned with the 2030 Agenda and with European and national regulations, the University recognises energy efficiency and environmental sustainability as core elements of its institutional mission. This framework aims to reduce energy consumption, expand the use of renewable energy sources and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
Developed by a working group appointed by the Rector, the Energy Policy defines an advanced governance model based on integrated actions and a multi-sectoral approach. It is grounded in the principles of efficiency, resilience, equity and social inclusion, linking environmental responsibility with economic sustainability.
The Energy Action Plan includes building retrofitting, renewable energy development and performance indicators such as energy consumption per square metre, avoided CO₂-equivalent emissions and the share of renewable energy produced. Monitoring systems, smart metering and data analysis support these actions, together with initiatives promoting sustainable behaviours within the academic community.
Looking ahead, ABCinEnergy and its partner universities play a key role in turning the principles of the energy transition into concrete, measurable actions that engage students, researchers, and communities.
